WOMANCARE’S SERVICES

24-HOUR CRISIS HELPLINE-207-564-8165 or 1-888-564-8165: All Womancare services, including safety planning information, advocacy, and emergency shelter are available 24 hours a day through our crisis Helpline.

ADVOCACY: Advocates provide support, information, and referrals as well as assistance with Protection from Abuse Orders either by phone or in person.

LEGAL ADVOCACY: Assistance with Protection from Abuse Orders, and Pro Se Family Matters such as Parental Rights and Responsibilities, and Divorce are available.

SUPPORT GROUPS: This is a place where women meet to talk, share information, and gain support. Support group is held from 1-2:30 on Tuesday at the Dover-Foxcroft office. Childcare is provided.

HANNAH’S HOUSE: Transitional housing and support services for up to 24 months, designed to help formerly battered women and children rebuild their lives after leaving an abusive relationship.

EMERGENCY SHELTER: We provide temporary shelter for those who are in immediate danger.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE PROGRAM: Education and training with agencies, organizations, and the general public to increase awareness about effective strategies in responding to and preventing domestic violence.

SCHOOL BASED EDUCATION: Educational programs devised to establish healthy relationships and promote social change are available for children from Head Start through high school.

*Wonderful Me: (Pre-K) Introducing differences and emphasizing the importance of individuality.

*Feelings Expression: (Pre-K) Recognizing and understanding emotions to build a positive self-concept.

*Friendship: (Pre-K) Developing the necessary skills to form and maintain healthy relationships.

*Harmony Camp: (K-3) Establishing healthy relationships, positive self-esteem, and individuality through song, story time, crafts and games.

*Hands Are Not For Hitting: (K-2) Raising children’s awareness to the negative impacts of using violence to solve conflicts.

*Conflict Resolution: (5th) Teaching nonviolent conflict resolution skills through active listening, demonstrating appropriate behaviors, and identifying anger in conflict.

*Bullying and Teasing: (6th) Addressing issues of violence that occur in schools daily and developing an anti-bullying policy.

*Communication: (7th) Understanding the various communication skills and their negative and positive influences on relationships.

*Healthy Relationships: (8th) Examining relationships and developing the necessary skills to identify healthy and unhealthy relationships.

*Teen Dating Violence: (9th-12th) Promoting social change with zero tolerance for abusive behaviors displayed in dating relationships.

WOMANCARE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: Womancare could not continue to provide 24-hour services without the help of our trained volunteers. We need your help! Call us at 564 -8165 for information about how you can become a Womancare Volunteer.
